For films published with notices from 1950 and after, registration can be completed anytime during the initial copyright term.
Piranha contains a valid notice. If it didn't have a notice the limit for registeration would be the end of 1983 (5 years after publication).

So FANTASTIC PLANET is actually copyrighted, after twenty or more years of being sold on $1 DVDs and generally being treated as PD?
